AICE Media Studies magazine project

I did not use retouch on any of my photos, I had to adjust the settings and crop some of the photos. To adjust the photos I used the photo app on my laptop, which is called photos. They let you adjust the settings of the photos and also crop and adjust the photo. Some of the photos that I took were too dark so I had to go in and turn up the brightness and contrast of the photos. Others that I took were too tilted to one side, so I had to turn the photo. Some had too much empty spaces on the sides, so I had to crop them down to reduce the empty spaces on the top and sides. This is what the logo for the photo app that I used looked like. I then needed to turn up the brightness for most of my photos. This process is very easy, all that you have to do is find the brightness setting and turn it up. Taking a photograph for the front of your magazine is very important because it sets the tone for your whole magazine. If the model on the front cover is wearing all dark clothes and looks sad, it sets the mood of the magazine as sad. But, if the model on the cover is in bright clothes and looks happy, then it sets the mood of the magazine to happy. I want to take my photos somewhere that resembles the winter theme. Taking a photo at the beach would not fit my theme because the beach resembles the summer not winter. Also taking pictures with a pumpkin or flowers would not work either because they do not go with winter. What I could do is take a picture of a person sitting around a campfire outside roasting marshmallows, in a sweater, hat, scarf, jeans, and boots. I could also take a picture of someone putting Christmas cookies in the oven while wearing Christmas pajamas. I have to create a magazine in the theme of winter. When I think of Winter, it reminds me of cookies, snow and hot chocolate. Also, there are major holidays in winter, for example Christmas and Hanukkah. Christmas consists of lights, Christmas trees, cookies, wrapping paper, and Christmas music. Hanukkah consists of festivals, candles, and dreidels. My magazine should somehow tie in with those holidays. Colors For the colors of my magazine, I should stick with blues, reds, greens, whites, and greys. The title could be in a shade of blue, and the background could be in white or grey. I will choose colors that look good together, for example the main story could be in green , while the other stories could be in red. I will stick with colors that stay within the theme of winter. Title  I want the title to be in blue because it is my favorite color, and when I think of winter I think of blue the most. The title should be in large font, and maybe cursive or bubble letters. For our magazine, we thought of different ways on how to change up the theme for each magazine. We still have to keep the same overall idea for our magazines, but we can each do our own themes. We decided to each make a magazine with one of the four seasons, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Spring :  Spring ranges from March 1 to May 31 each year. During spring the temperatures gradually rise and the flowers begin to bloom. The days get longer and it begins to get warmer outside. Spring symbolizes rebirth, renewal, love, hope, and youth. When making a magazine with the theme of Spring, there should be bright colors and somehow include flowers. The model on the front cover should be dressed bright and have flowers on their outfit or in their hair. The title color should be yellow or green, both of those being spring colors. Our previous magazine cover's title was dragonfly, and it appealed to teenage girls. We then decided that we were going to change the audience of our magazine. We thought about different age groups that it could appeal to, from teenagers all the way to adults. Making a magazine giving tips about adulthood could be hard because none of us has experienced that yet. We then thought about doing a magazine for girls in college, for example giving tips for how to apply to colleges. We eventually decided to go with this idea, being we have a friend who is currently applying for colleges. But the title, Dragonfly, does not fit the age group of a magazine. When we thought of a dragonfly, we thought of something that a young girl would admire. We then decided that we would have to come up with a new name for our magazine. For some of my blogs, I wanted to change the style of how I make them. Instead of just typing a paragraph and adding a few images, I decided to make a diagram on Powerpoint. I picked the image that I wanted and pasted it on my powerpoint slide. Then I identified the important parts of the image and decided what I wanted to comment on. Then, using the symbol tool, I dragged an arrow from the thing I wanted to comment on, the an empty space. I then opened up a new text box, and typed the information I wanted in there. I did this about 4-6 times, ensuring that I commented on everything that was important. This is the symbol tool that I used to draw the arrows. This is the text box that I used to type all of the information that I wanted to comment on.  Then, I had to learn how to paste the diagram into my blog. Masthead/House style Their masthead is Seventeen, which appeals to around the college age group. For their house style they choose a bright color such as pink to catch the readers attention, and pink represents a color that appeals to most woman. In my magazine, I hope to use a color for the title of the magazine that catches the readers attention, such as a bright blue or purple.  Mode of Address The mode of address is the the woman looking right at you as you look at the cover. She has curly hair that stands out as she' s posing for the picture. In my magazine, I am going to find a way to make the mode of address, one of my friends looking right at the camera doing something unique.  Anchorage  Tori Kelly, who is the anchorage for this magazine, is a singer, songwriter, and actress. Audience  The group of people that this magazine is going to interest is mostly women in college, but a few males might be interested. They made their audience clear by naming the audience College and making their stories appeal to kids in college. In my magazine, I hope to make my audience clear through the title and stories. Masthead/House Style  The masthead of this magazine is College, which means the title. The house style is the letters all in capitals, large font, and in a bright red color, to catch the attention of the readers. The color is significant to the title so it stands out, apart from the other stories. In my magazine, I will use font that fits my cover, and make sure to catch the attention of the readers.
