Seventeen

Masthead/House style

Their masthead is Seventeen, which appeals to around the college age group. For their house style they choose a bright color such as pink to catch the readers attention, and pink represents a color that appeals to most woman. In my magazine, I hope to use a color for the title of the magazine that catches the readers attention, such as a bright blue or purple. 

Mode of Address

The mode of address is the the woman looking right at you as you look at the cover. She has curly hair that stands out as she' s posing for the picture. In my magazine, I am going to find a way to make the mode of address, one of my friends looking right at the camera doing something unique. 

Anchorage 

Tori Kelly, who is the anchorage for this magazine, is a singer, songwriter, and actress. She is a role model for young adults because she is only 26, and has accomplished great things. What is also anchorage is the headline, as it draws in the attention of the reader with the image of the woman. On my magazine, I need to photograph someone and dress them in bright colors and make them look young and cool, so they can be a role model too. 

Headline/Strapline 

The headline in this magazine is Crazy Crush Confessions, which appeals to girls going into college. It is a great way to draw in readers because it is a topic that appeals to young women going into college. In my magazine, I need to make the main story bright, catchy, and interesting enough for people to want to read it. 

Buzz Words 

Their word choice is catchy, and draws the reader in. Some of the "Buzz" words that they use are Blahs, Cool, and Crazy. When the reader reads these words on the front of a magazine, it makes them want to find out what is so cool and crazy. On my magazine, /I am going to use words that make my magazine stand out, and are unique. 

Cover Lines 

Some of the cover lines of this magazine are, The girls of Dance Moms, Cool Designer DIY, and Beat Winter Skin Blahs. These are the cover lines because they help draw the reader in to read more. They also fit the audience they are trying to reach, a person around 17-20 would find interest in these stories. In my magazine, I want to have interesting stories that draw the reader in and fit the audience of my magazine. 

Incentive

The incentive on the magazine is a free trip to the premiere of Divergent, on Allegiant air flights. Divergent is a movie that appeals to the audience of this magazine, so the readers will want to try and enter. On my magazine, I want to give an incentive that appeals to girl going to college so they will want to enter the contest. 

Sweet spot 

In the sweet spot of this magazine, they put new study hacks for the SAT. The SAT is a very important test that most later aged teenagers want to pass so they can go to college. This would be great to put in the sweet spot because it will make them want to flip to that page and read more. In my magazine, I want to put something that will grab the readers attention in the sweet spot. 

Overall, this magazine does a great job including most of the magazine conventions, the only thing they could have done better was to include a catchy slogan. I will include a slogan in my magazine that will draw the readers in.
