Example Magazine Project

In class a couple of weeks ago, we were asked to design our very own magazine covers. With designing them came a lot of choices that we had to make, for example the font size, colors, images, (etc.). We first needed to decide the audience of our magazine project. The first decision that we came up with for the theme of the magazine is teenage girls because we were all teenage girls once, so we can relate to the information in the magazine. All of the tips, tricks, and advertisements on the front of the magazine, all relate to teenage girls and giving them advice. The title of our magazine is called "Dragonfly" because a dragonfly  symbolizes changes, which a teenage girl is going through. The title font is large and in all purple because purple symbolizes royalty, which is important for a teenage girl to feel. In our banner, we have Expert Opinion in the top right corner to show that the information in our magazine is reliable. Our slogan shows that we are different from all of the other magazines, that ours stands out. In the middle of the magazine, as the main subject, we have Billie Ellish. We chose Billie as our main focus because she is unique and has her own sense of style. She is a good role model for teenage girls who are going through change. It was a little difficult to chose our celebrity because so many of them are great role models, but Billie stuck out to us. The magazine also features tips by Lizzo, who is a singer. She was chosen for our magazine because she is a new singer who is a strong woman which she expresses through her song, "Truth Hurts". The magazine cover theme is halloween because it was almost October when we created this, and the theme fits in well with Billie. The slime and spiderwebs are green because that is the color of Billie's hair, making it all fit with her style well as she is the main image. In the top left corner, we added a promotion for a free concert ticket because it adds an extra motivation for the reader to read on in the magazine to find the opportunity. Overall we were very happy with how our cover came turned out, because we put a lot of work into making it look so realistic.

It was important for us to practice making our own magazines before we were assigned to this project so we know what all of the terms mean and how to make a magazine. While learning about magazines, we were taught all of the conventions, for example masthead and sweet spot. We also got to see other examples of magazine covers done by other people.
